Membership Categories
On June 1, 2000, the members of the PIAA voted to revise its membership categories resulting in an expansion of the types of insuring organizations which may belong to the Association. In addition to insurers of physicians and dentists, insurers or other indemnification organizations providing professional liability coverage to other healthcare providers, hospitals, and other healthcare institutions are eligible to join the PIAA.
Membership in the PIAA is corporate and runs on a calendar year basis. Membership is available to physician-directed and/or -operated medical professional liability (MPL) insurance companies in the U.S. and abroad. Reinsurers and other organizations providing goods and services to MPL insurers are also eligible for membership. Additionally beginning in 2008, defense law firms that have a business relationship with an existing PIAA insurer member may become members. All member companies and their employees, officers, and directors, may benefit from a myriad of
resources available only to PIAA members.
